Finding my way-<\/span>
\n “He was alone in a dark sterile hospital room with the door shut, “terminally ill” according to his chart, waiting to go home. I was done all my duties for the shift and felt compelled to go and spend a few minutes with him. We spoke for awhile and our time was meaningful. As I left the hospital unit the charge nurse stopped me and said “I know you were done but please don’t spend extra time in a patients room. I replied “he’s dying and alone” She replied “It doesn’t matter. If you do it others will be expected to spend time as well and we can’t have that.” It was at that moment I knew I was not where I was meant to be. I am forever grateful to whoever she was for sending me on to discover this incredible journey of hospice service.”<\/span><\/p>\n
